NCAA Tips

The non-negotiables we tell every family we work with.

01

Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center — early.

Open your account at the start of junior year. Don't wait. Initial eligibility is a paperwork race, not a basketball race.

02

Hit your 16 core courses.

10 of them must be done by the end of junior year. Senior year retakes do not count toward those 10. Plan with your counselor now.

03

Understand that your GPA is only your core courses.

Some of your high school courses do not count towards NCAA requirements. Know which ones matter and plan with your counselor now.

04

Highlight reels: 3 minutes, best plays first.

Coaches stop watching after 90 seconds. Lead with the most translatable skill. No music, no slow-mo, no logos. Just hoops.

05

Email coaches the right way.

Subject line = name, class, position, height. One short paragraph. Game film link. Upcoming schedule. That's it.

06

Know the contact rules.

D1 contact periods differ by sport and grade. Many coaches can't reply before June 15 after sophomore year. Silence isn't rejection.

07

NIL is real — but it's secondary.

Pick the school where you'll play and develop. NIL follows production. Production does not follow NIL.

08

Visits matter. Take them seriously.

Official and unofficial visits reveal fit. Eat in the dining hall. Talk to current players without coaches present.
